Dümler & Breiden ‘Terra’ Design German Pottery Flower Vase 141 20

This is a good example of a moulded German pottery vase with the ‘Terra’ décor by Dümler & Breiden. The body is cylindrical in form, tapering inwards from the base to form a high waist, then flaring out to form a trumpet shaped rim. The body is decorated with a moulded pattern consisting of slightly twisted vertical lines. The glaze is applied in bands of brick red, yellow, dark green and cream over this pattern. The moulded lines are lightly brushed with brown glaze, which makes them stand out more. The base of the vase has ‘GERMANY’ and the figures ‘141 20’ impressed into it. This piece was probably made after German reunification in 1990. The underlying pottery is a stone in colour, as evidenced by the unglazed foot rim. From my reading on the subject I gather that the first figure 141 corresponds to the pattern number and the second number, in the case of a vase, refers to the approximate height in centimetres. It has a height of approximately 20.3cm, with a diameter at the rim of about 8.9cm and across the base of about 7.9cm. It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
