Duchess Fine Bone China ‘Poppies’ Design Trio Cup and Saucer Set

This is a nice example of a bone china trio from the ‘Poppies’ range by Duchess China.

The cup has a central ‘waist’ and then tapers in towards the base. It sits on a thick discoid base. The edge of the rim, handle and base are decorated with a band of green. One side of the cup is decorated with a transfer printed motif consisting of stylised poppies, ears of wheat and small blue flowers. On the reverse is a sprig of flower buds and leaves.

The saucer and side plate each have a fluted rim that is decorated with a green band. They are transfer printed with the same stylised poppy, wheat ear and blue flower design.

The underside of each piece is marked with a crown and ‘DUCHESS FINE BONE CHINA MADE IN ENGLAND POPPIES 659’. This is surrounded by a wreath of flowers from the pattern.

The cup has a height of approximately 7.1cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 8.4cm and across the base of about 4.7cm. The saucer has a diameter of about 13.9cm and the side plate has a diameter of about 16.5cm.

They are in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a number of wear and tear scratches to the side plate. This wear is reflected in the price.
