This is a classic example of a stoneware coffee pot in the timeless ‘Greenwheat’ pattern by Denby.
The teapot has a flattened globular body. The handle is plain and strap-like. There is a spout that is drawn-out from the body and sits just above with the rim. The exterior is glazed in off-white and has been hand painted with a stylised wheat design amongst stylised blades of grass. On the opposite side of the pot there is a small stylised tuft of grasses. The interior is glazed in dark green.
The lid is domed with a central drawn button-shaped knop. There is a small hole off-centre to allow the escape of steam.
The base is marked in black with the words ‘MADE IN ENGLAND GREENWHEAT DENBY OVEN-PROOF’. There is also a Denby backstamp in blue (although this has been printed over) and a print of the signature of Albert College.
It has a maximum height (including the lid) of approximately 10.9cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 8.8cm and across the base of about 8.6cm. It has a liquid capacity (as printed on the base) of ¾ of a pint.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few wear and tear scratches commensurate with use.
