Product Description

This is a stunning piece of art pottery by the well-known lecturer and potter David Green.

The bowl has a deeply notched rim which is glazed in white. The remainder of the bowl is glazed in white, over which is a striped layer of green with matte black at the edges. The centre is decorated with a white circle with six dots. Between a pair of dots there is a vertical line which intersects the circle. On the opposite side of the circle there is a short vertical line protruding from the edge of the circle.

The underside of the bowl has a flattened base. The remainder has a rough, stippled texture and is unglazed, revealing the underlying ceramic body to be terracotta in colour. It is impressed in the centre with ‘DAVID GREEN’.

David Green first attended Exeter and then the Royal College of Art School of Ceramics in 1949 after completing his National Service. During this time he also lectured at the Carlisle College of Art (1957-1967) and at the Bath Academy (1968-1981). In 1990 he ceased potting and moved to East Anglia, where he focussed on his watercolour painting.

The bowl has a diameter across the rim of approximately 27.9cm.

It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
