This is a stunning, high quality cut lead crystal bowl by Daum of France and probably dating to the late 20th or early 21st century.
The bowl is made from thick lead crystal with a wide rim that tapers down to meet the thickened base. The exterior of the bowl is cut with an abstract pattern consisting of deep vertical leaf-shaped wedge cuts that are surrounded by slightly curved vertical lines in matt intaglio. The majority of these lines terminate just above the base of the bowl. The latter is polished flat and hand engraved at the edge with the words ‘DAUM FRANCE’. Between the words ‘DAUM’ and ‘FRANCE’ is what looks like some letters in inverted commas, although it is hard to decipher.
The bowl has a height of approximately 17.2cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 21.4cm and across the base of about 6.6cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some wear and tear scratches to the base commensurate with age.
