The tea cup is rounded and sits on a short discoid base. The handle is angular in shape. The whole is glazed in a pale grey colour with a cobalt blue line around the interior and exterior of the rim and down the handle. The interior of the bowl is then glazed below the rim with three bands of dark grey that diminish in size as they approach the base.
The cup is marked on the underside in green with the words ‘COPELAND SPODE ENGLAND NEW STONE’ with a black star to one side.
The saucer is shaped like an old fashioned tea bowl, with an upturned rim. It is glazed in the same way as the cup, with a cobalt blue ring on the interior of the rim followed by three grey stripes. It is impressed on the base with two numbers although they are not easily discernible.
The side plate has a gently scalloped rim and is decorated in the same way as the saucer. The underside is impressed in the centre with the letter ‘J’ above the number ‘52’. This is a date mark and corresponds to January 1952.
The cup has a height of approximately 5.9cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 9.0cm and across the base of about 4.4cm. The saucer has a diameter of about 13.2cm and the side plate has a diameter of about 18.0cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some wear and tear scratches to the design and the foot rim is slightly rough from manufacture.
