This is a highly attractive commemorative tumbler, produced by Chance Glass and probably supplied by Johnson, Matthey Ltd.

The tumbler is approximately cylindrical, tapering in towards the base. It is made from flint glass that has been sprayed with a layer of powder blue ceramic. The rim is gilded and there is a transfer print on one side with the crest above a banner that reads ‘CORONATION OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II JUNE 2ND 1953’. The base is plain and is moulded with the words ‘MADE IN ENGLAND’ and the number ‘12’.

There were two sizes made – a half pint and a pint tumbler. This is the half pint version.

It has a height of approximately 12.3cm, with a diameter at the rim of about 7.2cm and across the base of about 5.5cm.

It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although the gilding at the rim is worn and there is some mottling or faint discolouration to the exterior that gives it a slightly aged effect. This wear is reflected in the price.
