This is a simple yet stylish sugar sifter dating to the Art Deco period and produced by George Clews & Co. Ltd. It sits on a discoid base, above which is a stepped discoid portion. The body is domed and moulded with a circumferential ridge approximately one-fifth of the way down. Below this the body is decorated with three impressed lines that extend from the discoid portion up to just below the circumferential ring. They loop around and sweep down to approximately 1.0cm from their point of origin. There are another three lines that form an arch between the two sides of this design. There are fifteen small holes in the apex that have been ‘cut out’ by hand. The whole is glazed in a mottled beige colour. The base is domed and unmarked. There is a central hole that is plugged with an old cork and wood bung. This is in fairly good condition and still creates a good seal. It has a maximum height of approximately 11.9cm and a diameter across the base of about 6.5cm. It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is a little crazing to the glaze in places.
