Hornsea Pottery

Legacy Antiques stocks an interesting range of pieces produced by the Hornsea Pottery during their fifty-one year history.

Hornsea Pottery was in production from 1949 to 2000. It was originally founded by two brothers, Colin and Desmond Rawson, who received financial backing from a local businessman named Philip Clappison. Their products proved popular with tourists visiting the seaside town, and they took on their first employee in 1950. The company grew exponentially, and by 1981 they were employing 700 people. Unfortunately, due to expenses incurred from the Lancaster site and the growing taste for cheaper, imported goods, the company declined and eventually went in to receivership in April 2000.

Although the factory buildings have long since been demolished, there is a museum that can be found occupying two 18th century cottages on the high street in Hornsea.
