This is a nice example of a piece of art pottery tableware by Blue Mountain Pottery.
Blue Mountain Pottery was Canada's largest manufacturer of quality giftware pottery from its introduction in 1947 until the plant closed for good in December 2004 ending a fifty-seven year business.
Items produced by this company feature a unique, trademarked glazing process known as "reflowing decorating”. Two different liquid glazes, one light and one dark in colour, were applied. During the firing process the glazes would run, creating streaking patterns individual to each piece.
The jug is of low globular form with a short tapered pouring spout. It has been glazed in green and black with a mottled and streaked pattern. The footrim is unglazed, revealing the underlying ceramic body to be terracotta in colour. The centre of the base is moulded in relief with ‘BMP CANADA’. This mark was in use during the 1980s and 1990s.
It has a height of approximately 5.0cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
