This is a bright retro cup and saucer set from the ‘Tashkent’ range, designed by Kathie Winkle for Broadhurst.
The cup is approximately cylindrical in shape, tapering in towards the base. It is decorated around the upper portion with a band of stylised leaves transfer printed in black and then hand glazed in yellow ochre and brown. The handle is plain and is attached to the upper portion.
The cup is impressed on the underside with the words ‘BROADHURST ENGLAND’.
The saucer is printed below the rim with a band of stylised leaves in black and white. There is a central cup ring.
The underside of the saucer is stamped in black with the words ‘BROADHURST MADE IN ENGLAND IRONSTONE HANDPAINTED UNDERGLAZE DETERGENT PROOF COMPLIES WITH SAFETY STANDARDS TASHKENT’.
The cup has a height of approximately 7.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.7cm and across the base of about 4.4cm. The saucer has a diameter across the rim of about 14.1cm.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some crazing to the glaze in places. This wear is reflected in the price.
