Bohemian White and Gold Encased Cut Lead Crystal Tumbler with Applied Scroll Design
For a full product description, see below.
This is a highly attractive glass tumbler of Bohemian origin and in classic style but probably dating to the mid-20th century.
The tumbler is approximately bucket-shaped, tapering in towards the thickened base. The crystal interior is encased in a thick layer of white glass. There is a band of gilding around the rim. There is also a wide band of matte gold over which is applied a complex scroll and floral design that is embossed. This band is bordered above and below by a fine circumferential band of gold. The lower half is cut with ten vertical rectangular panels; the white layer is cut through to reveal the flint glass layer below. Each of these panels is edged in gold and surmounted by a scalloped line.
The base is plain crystal and star cut in the centre. It is unmarked.
It has a height of approximately 10.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.6cm and across the base of about 4.5cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
