This is a nice example of a powder bowl, probably Czechoslovakian in origin and dating to the Art Deco period.
The bowl has a galleried rim and a rounded shoulder that tapers in as it approaches the base. The body is cut just below the shoulder with a scalloped design consisting of eight swags each topped with an olive cut. Below this the body is cut with a circumferential zig-zag line; in the triangular panels thus formed there is a fine fan cut surrounding an oval cut, alternating with inverse fan cuts. The base is star cut and unmarked.
The lid is of flattened discoid form with a central discoid knop at the apex. This is star cut on the top and faceted around the edge. The edge of the lid is cut with a design of scallops, fan cuts and ovals mirroring that on the body.
It has a maximum height including the lid of about 11.0cm, a maximum diameter of about 13.8cm and a diameter across the base of about 11.1cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
