Art Pottery Striped Cylindrical Stoneware Storage Jar

This is a nice example of an art pottery storage jar, probably British in origin and dating to the latter part of the 20th century. The jar is approximately cylindrical in shape and is decorated just below the rim with a band of incised circumferential lines. It is glazed with a speckled grey base and then striped both horizontally and vertically with royal blue, green, teal, and dark and light brown. The vertical teal stripe appears to have been incised with a letter ‘C’ at the top and another ‘C’ about halfway down. The lid is glazed in speckled grey and glazed with concentric circles in brown and pale blue. The base is unglazed, revealing the underlying ceramic body to be grey stoneware. The edge is bevelled and impressed with a maker’s mark, although this is not discernible. It has a maximum height (including the lid) of approximately 12.8cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 8.9cm and across the base of about 8.5cm. It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
