This is a nice example of a piece of American glassware, probably dating to mid-20th century.

The Anchor Hocking Glass Company began in Lancaster, Ohio, in 1906 as Hocking Glass Company. It later merged with Ohio Flint Glass Company and was renamed Anchor Hocking Glass Company in 1937. This was following the merger with Anchor Cap & Closure Co. The word ‘glass’ was dropped from the name in 1969. In 1970 it acquired Phoenix Glass and in 1987 was taken over by Newell. Since acquiring Rubbermaid in 1999 it has been renamed Newell Rubbermaid.

The jar has a ruby glass body that is approximately cylindrical in shape. It is moulded with two circumferential hoops, one below the rim and one above the base. The base is discoid and unmarked.

The lid is made from flint glass and has a galleried rim. The upper portion is domed with an elongated knop that is hollow.

It has a maximum height (including the lid) of approximately 20.9cm, with a diameter across the base of about 9.5cm.

It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few wear and tear scratches to the base.
