19th Century Chesterman 33ft Measuring Tape with Brass Winder
For a full product description, see below.
This is a fabulous old example of a measuring tape produced by J. Chesterman of Sheffield.
The tape is made from cloth and is printed with feet and inches. On the reverse it is printed with the words ‘CHESTERMAN SHEFFIELD ENGLAND JC METALLIC 39’. The tape is housed in the original hand stitched brown leather case, which reads ‘CHESTERMAN SHEFFIELD ENGLAND’ on both sides.
The tape has a brass winder in the centre, which is stamped ‘33ft’. This was their patented flush handle. The winder is in good working order.
It has a diameter of approximately 10.0cm.
It is in fair condition for its age, with a nice patina to the leather case. The tape has been repaired at some point, with the frayed end having been sewn onto a piece of leather. However, this has since worn out and now a portion of the end is missing. This is common in these pieces as they tended to wear out from use.
