This is an unusual bicentenary plate, celebrating 200 years of potting from 1750 to 1950, made by Coalport.
The centre of the plate features the classic ‘Willow Pattern’ design, printed from one of the earliest original engravings of Thomas Turner. He produced the first blue printed table service made in England. The rim is moulded with a complex design featuring the names ‘NANTGARW’, ‘COALPORT’, ‘BROSELEY’, ‘COALBROOKDALE’, ‘CAUGHLEY’ and ‘SWANSEA’ and the figures ‘1750’ and ‘1950’.
The rim and the ‘Willow Pattern’ design are edged in gold.
The reverse of the plate bears the Coalport mark and gives a history of the Coalport Potteries. There is also a stylised representation of various Coalport marks.
The plate has a diameter of approximately 23.5cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
