This is a high quality cut lead crystal decanter, probably Bohemian in origin and dating to between the 1920s and 1930s. The decanter has an elongated rounded body that tapers in towards the base. It is cut on the shoulder with a ring of horizontal oval cuts that overlap one another. Below this, the decanter is cut with four vertical facets that divide it in to four panels. Each panel contains a design consisting of three vertical wedge cuts, the central one being overcut with five vertical cuts creating a grid. In each square there is a cross cut. There is a circumferential wedge cut below the pattern. The body of the decanter sits on a thick foot that is star cut in the centre. There is a short neck and a plain undulating rim with three ‘lobes’. The stopper is of star cut mushroom form, tapering down to a plain neck above the slightly ground stopper. Both the decanter neck and the stopper are engraved with the number ‘8’. It has a maximum height including the stopper of approximately 24.7cm and a height excluding the stopper of about 21.3cm. It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
