This is a good quality lead crystal pickle jar, probably dating to the 1920s to 1930s.
The jar is broadly cylindrical, with a rounded shoulder and a short neck, which has been ground on the inside to allow tight fitting of the stopper. The body has been cut with a design consisting of eight large criss-crosses, the upper and lower limbs of which come into close approximation. In the diamond shaped panel thus formed is a pattern of diamonds in relief formed by two pairs of parallel lines that intersect. The lower limbs of each large criss-cross continue downwards to meet beneath the centre of adjacent criss-crosses. There is a short vertical wedge cut at the point at which they meet and a longer wedge cut extending downwards from below the lattice cut diamond. The hollow stopper has a flattened domed top, which is star cut, and a ground glass neck.
The base is star cut and unmarked.
The height including the stopper is approximately 14.7cm, with a diameter of about 6.8cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
