1920s Bretby Art Deco ‘Flying Saucer’ Posy Vase No. 3563B in Yellow
For a full product description, see below.
This is a highly unusual example of a posy vase by Bretby and dating to the Art Deco period.
The posy vase has a broad, domed upper portion with a central aperture. This is encircled by a moulded line; in addition, there are five concentric moulded rings before the rim. The base is continuous with the centre, and is moulded with a series of steps. The base is impressed in the centre with the iconic sunburst logo, as well as the words ‘BRETBY MADE IN ENGLAND’ and the code ‘3563B’.
The piece is glazed in a matte mustard yellow, with a glossier pale yellow on the interior.
It has a maximum height of approximately 5.7cm, with a maximum diameter of about 26.0cm and a diameter across the base of about 9.7cm. The central aperture has a diameter of about 4.9cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some crazing to the glaze, and there are glaze ‘misses’ around the base and rim. These are manufacturing artefacts.
