1950s Art Deco Style Striped and Frosted Spirit Decanter and Two Matching Glasses
For a full product description, see below.
This is a highly attractive example of a spirit decanter and matching glasses, probably continental in origin and dating to the mid-20th century.
The decanter has a flattened rim that tapers in to form a short neck. This then widens out to form the mallet-shaped body. This then sits on a discoid base that is decorated with a circumferential silver stripe. The upper half of the decanter is also decorated with circumferential silver stripes. The lower half of the body is acid etched so that it is opaque. The base is plain and engraved with the number ‘8’.
The stopper is of flattened discoid form and is decorated with five concentric rings of silver on the top. The edge of the stopper is also decorated with a band of silver. It has a short waisted portion above the tapering peg. The latter is engraved with the number ‘8’.
Each glass has a cylindrical bowl that tapers in towards the thickened discoid base. Like the decanter, the upper half is striped and the lower half frosted. They are unmarked.
The decanter has a maximum height of approximately 25.7cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 4.4cm and across the base of about 9.1cm. Each glass has a height of approximately 8.1cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.1cm and across the base of about 3.8cm.
They are in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some wear to the silvering and some marks to the frosted area on both the glasses and the decanter. This wear is commensurate with the age of the pieces and does not detract from them in any way.
